A small investment in design can make the difference between a product selling, or not.
The addition of cost-effective packaging with clear and simple branding has made a huge impact to Sandra Padbury's handmade felted soap exfoliators. Before this, sales were slow and few, with both retailers and potential customers not quite knowing what these lovely colourful bundles of felt were used or, or how best to present them.
The earthy and tactile brown kraft tag and a clear celophane bag helps to keep the soaps clean and neat, clearly displays what they're used for, and the scent of the different soaps – in English on one side, Welsh on the other. An A5 display card for retailers also shows customers what the product benefits are, along with the stylish new Padbury's logo.
The design has been a great success, with several garden centres, homeware and gift shops in the region, as well as Natural Resources Wales outdoor centres and CADW Welsh castles in the Snowdonia National Park placing orders for their gift shops. As Sandra says "I feel so much more confident going to retailers and shop owners and showing them the soaps now – and their reaction is always 'Wow, they look great…".
